Events - Ghost Mankele Avalanche

The Ghost Avalanche Challenge was held at Mankele on the 9th &10th June 2012

We have been very busy at Mankele! Mr. Nature decided that it will be a good time to burn the farm, I miss understood him and thought he said we must burn the whole farm, GOODBYE wooden berms and bridges!! But don’t stress they have been rebuilt.

We decided to celebrate the return of the bridges by hiring a mini TLB. This poor TLB driver. We made him go up the Avalanche route to build some kickass berms. I asked him what was worse going up the course or coming down the course, he just looked at me with tears in his eyes and drove off into the sunset.

Anyway we are now looking for a new plant hiring company! All I can say is flip it, you must see what we have done to the course, it is going to be fast!!!!

Here is a bit of guide line of when things are supposed to happen over the weekend, remember it is a chilled out weekend with the focus on the riding. Not all the other procedures that you have to stick to at work!!

This event’s purpose is to remind us why we ride.

3 Stages of awesome downhill single track, you must ride
it to believe it. A weekend of MTB heaven and yes NO CLIMBS!
“shuttle me to the top and klap it to the bottom”.

What a blast, last year’s event was a huge success with all
the mad Jhb boys on their hardcore bikes pitched up. It was muddy, snotty and lots of fun. This type of racing gets you
heart rate so high that your adrenaline starts seeping out
of your veins.

A weekend jam packed with downhill single track, bush
tunnels, rock gardens and endless boardwalks.

3 trail stages, each rider gets  two runs. (Best time counts).

Technical or not?

Perfect bike would be a 140mm trail bike but it can even
be done on a hard tail or a Downhill Bike.
It’s as technical as you make it “Speed Kills”.
Fast flowing single track that will test your brakes!!
Bring your bike and have a wicked MTB weekend.

Remember to bring:

  • Bike & Helmet, the rest are luxuries (we will have a bike mechanic and a medic not sure which one is which)
  • Warm bedding X 100 (We supply mattress only) you can share a tent with your mate but don’t share the mattress!!
  • Headlamp (a torch not head cramp)
  • A book to read and a pen to take notes.
  • 2 x bags of adrenaline for backup.

If you have not entered yet and you are going to do a line entry then please let me know. I don’t want to under cater on CHICKEN and the shuttle. See you next weekend.

By the way... Geoff is becoming a bookie, Max Knox, Bryce Munro (last year winner), Fritz (known to man, as the best technical skills with ZERO fear) or a new comer!! Who will take it this year and will Geoff be able to retire with his new business venture?
